type='text'>HP 520 and Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10

After some time looking for a "suitable" laptop, I decided to buy HP 520 with Intel Celeron 1.6 G, 1G RAM, 80 G Hardisk SATA, Intel 945GM Video Card, Broadcom 94311 mini PCI, 14.1" Display, DVD/CDRW.
Why I chose HP compared to Acer or Toshiba? The first reason is HP supports open source. It is proven by the support for the HP printers which I can say Linux printers. When it released new products the driver for the printers are easy to be found. So I thought it is best for me to buy HP laptop.
The second reason is that most of my friends at Post Graduate bought Acer so I want to be different from them. The third reason is because I can afford to buy the laptop. It's only 5.400.000 rupiah. That's all the money I could get.
At first I took a look at Lenovo but it was only with 512 of RAM. The second is Toshiba L25 with Vista and Acer.
So be it. Here I am with HP 520.
Fortunately, I had just received 2 CDs from Canonical. Yes, they are Gutsy CDs, i386 and 64. So I installed Gutsy on this laptop. Everything works even the Fn Keys, except the wireless LAN. So I decided to use the Ndiswrapper and now it works.
First, I connected to the internet using the Ethernet Card, update my repository and find suitable apps that I need.
You can ask me the how to of course. Just comment on this blog. OK.

Powered by ScribeFire.

ẅ Williemzyme 1103

The type of organisms and bacteria which are actually dominant in wastewater depend on many factors, but of particular significance is the availability of micro-nutrients. Certain bacteria, especially aerobic species, need more trace elements as cofactors than anaerobic bacteria if the availability of such nutrients is low. Other bacteria which require fewer micro-nutrients will become dominant. In addition, sometimes bacteria or yeast strains release sufficient quantities of antibiotic that suppress the growth of other microorganisms. Protozoa may also have an undesirable effect by feeding on bacteria subsequently reducing the population of desirable bacteria.

Joomla and Wordpress - Open Source Product

Meantime I am working with my school local website. It's not difficult to run it on my computer since it is a live cd.
We have to option on login whether to choose "guest" or "root" account. On the login display the password is displayed. Running in a guest account will not give us the install option.
It runs smoothly with KDE on my computer AMD Duron 850MHz with 512M of RAM and I've tried in AMD Athlon 1600MHz with 256 M of RAM without any problem.
Then I tried the installation and it's radically simple. The most important thing is to know about the partitioner. It took only 15 minutes to complete the installation. All operating systems are detected well and store in MBR so we can choose what to boot, including Windows.
Everything we need on basic computing is available. Office, instant messenger, PDF viewer, Multimedia (Kaffeine, KMPlayer and Mplayer, Amarok) has already installed. The multimedia codecs are quite complete.
One thing that I feel disappointed is that Kaffeine crashes when I try to play VCD. But I can play it on KMPlayer and MPlayer. For MP3 collectors, you can play your MP3 with Amarok or other video players.
To manage the computer is easy since PCLinux OS use Mandriva as the basis.
Overall it is the linux distro that is suitable for everyone, newbies or even an expert in Linux.

OpenSuse 10.2 On Relion Laptop

My school have a laptop, Relion AMD 64 1.8G with 1 G of RAM and VIA Chipset with Ralink Wireless and S3 Unichrome Pro VGA.
I decided to install OpenSuse 10.2 32 bit because I haven't got the 64bit CDs. Complete instructions can be found on http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories.

But some requirements needed in order to do that:

They are:

You have internet connection. I suggest you don't use dial up because it's going to be very slow.

You have to be patient to wait for YAST setting up your repository, as I experienced, it took hours to complete. If YAST feels like it freezes, it is normal so all you have to is wait.

Packman is a good source for your multimedia, guru is good too. Take a minute to read the explanation on the page I give you here.

Enjoy your being OpenSuse users.

powered by performancing firefox

Enabling Multimedia in OpenSuse 10.1

Yesterday, I was pushed to reinstall my Suse 10.1 box since I couldn't login to my account after a reboot and I didn't have any idea how to handle that problem.

Reinstalling means that I have to dedicated my time to set up especially the Multimedia part of the box. I decided to install KDE as the default Window Manager with 2 user name "anom" and "remote". anom was the user I had used on the last working Suse. I had separated the partitions for / and /home so I didn't feel worried about my data.

After the installation complete, I tried to login to user anom but it failed. So I could make a conclusion that actually I wouldn't have o reinstall my box if I had had the idea to make a new user, because I can log in to user remote. Nothing need to be regret...

As before in Suse 10.0 or 10.1, I went to the next step that was to enable the multimedia so that I could play mp3 files, 3gp, and movie files. I didn't worry about that because I had the experience for about 4 times setting up in 4 computers. Practice makes perfect.

These are the steps :

Remove xine-lib, amarok-xine, amarok, kaffeine and package depended on xine-lib.

Get the following files : w32codecs and libxine from packman

Install them

Reinstall amarok-xine, kaffeine or xine

Finish

Now you can enjoy your mp3 files using Amarok, or xine/kaffeine.

powered by performancing firefox

Suse 10.1 is cool and wonderful

This post is composed in Firefox 2 in my Suse 10.1 box. Microsoft will ensure that your system is not safe until you purchase anti virus and anti spyware software from their cooperate companies.
3. Daily the computers are also used to connect to the internet for browsing and chatting.
For some time I got trouble with this OS because of the viruses, trojan horses and worms, so I decided to get them installed with Linux OS.

I just got Ubuntu CDs from Netherland (I ordered it for free in SHIPIT in Ubuntu Website) and I had installed them on about 20 computers. It was when I bought a PC for my brother in law. I went to Dev Computer, a computer store in my town, Salatiga. The owner of the store, David, installed Suse Linux 9.0 instead of Windows because I had to buy for it. I didn't know Linux so I insisted to have Windows on the PC. He said that he could only install Windows Trial Edition because of the law. It lasted for 30 days.

At that time I only took a glance of Linux because there's very little knowledge in my mind about it, even I didn't care at all.

For a month I used Windows Trial and then I borrowed Windows XP CD from a friend of mine and upgraded. I didn't care about the piracy.

In the same year I went to my brother's house in South East Sulawesi. My brother is a teacher in one of Junior High Schools there. He asked me to check his school computers given by the government for his school. He said that the Windows Xp on the computers was not working. He got 20 computers. They were HP PC. The Windows in the computers was Trial so after 30 days, it stopped working.

Then I tried to install them with Windows XP Proffessional which was pirated since the serial number (SN) of the CD was the same as one I installed in Salatiga. I was quite shocked when I ask him for Driver CD of the computers, he gave me 2 CDs of Mandrake Linux 9.1 HP. On my conclusion, HP bundled its computers with Linux OS. I wondered why.

There're lots of question in my mind. Why Linux? What was Linux? Why was it bundled with branded computers?

Then when I came to Makassar, South Sulawesi, I found the answer of my question. When I was looking around in one of bookstores in a mall there, I found a magazine with enchanting title; " Linux, alah bisa karena biasa" (Linux, we can because we get used to). I bought the magazine which was bundled with a CD of Linux Mandrake Bamboo 9.1.

I read the magazine and tried to install it on my computer.
From that time I dedicated my time to learn more about Linux.

It's me with Linux

This is me in Javanese traditional clothes. OpenOffice.org as my office application, The GIMP for editing my photoes and some other Open Source Software (OSS) like Firefox, Opera or Mozilla for internet browsing, GAIM to chat in Yahoo, XMMS, Xine or MPlayer to play my Media Player.
I write this in Suse Linux 10.0 using Firefox while listening to my favourite song in XMMS.

Open Source Solution for Education

To end the use of pirated softwares, first we need to change our point of view that doesn't mean Microsoft Windows and Office Application doesn't mean Microsoft Office. I remember when I was in Junior high school, I was taught to to use operating system Wordstar and Lotus. Wordstar is a text editor and Lotus is a spreadsheet application. The OS at that time was DOS.
Then, Microsoft Windows and Office became popular and people became addicted and think that they are the only OS and Office application. It is understood because they see all the time everywhere and never think the OS and Office apps are pirated ones.
We can start to change if we have opened our minds that there are some other OS's and software which we can use to fulfill our need.
One of them is Linux OS to change our pirated Windows. It is open source and free because Linux is maintained by community so it will always free. If we have to pay, it will be worthwhile because we will get support from the distribution. And it is far cheaper than if we buy Windows.
There are hundreds of distributions (we call it distro) in Linux so we can choose one of them which suits our needs. Even, we can make our own distro to adapt to our special needs. Some big distros are Mandrake/Mandriva, RedHat, Suse, Fedora Core, Ubuntu, Xandros, Simply Mepis and many more. Some of them come with completely free software and some with commercial software with full support. We can choose the best for us. Distributions like Ubuntu, Simply Mepis, Knoppix and DSL are based on Live CD so we can run the OS and it's applications from the CD and we do not need to install anything on our harddrive so it won't affect our data. The aim is to know the compatibility of our computers and also to work faster without installing.
to be continued ....

I will use English

In order to serve more people, I would change the language to English. This fact is really shameful because education should teach how to do the right things and know how to avoid using wrong things.
Some people (including national educators), somehow, argue that it is right to use the software for educational purposes. It's ambigueous. Truth is the truth whatever the reason. The wrong is always wrong no matter what.
It's an excuse to legallize the use of pirated sofware. No matter what it is a piracy and should not be used in any cases. Let's think! There are always ways to avoid using such pirated software.
